SVPCA Glasgow 2007 - Fourth Circular
Dear Delegates
Welcome to the Fourth Circular. There are links here to information on how to get to the University of Glasgow main campus from your point of arrival in the city, as well as maps of the campus showing the location of the lecture theatres (in the Graham Kerr Building), and maps showing the location of the Queen Margaret Residence as well as the venues for Wednesday's Civic Reception and Friday's Annual Dinner.
Registration
Registration will take place in the in the Zoology Museum (which is located in the Graham Kerr Building on the main campus) on Tuesday morning for SPPC and Tuesday afternoon/evening for SVPCA. Please bring any outstanding sums of money with you to clear your account at registration.
Depending on your time of arrival, you may choose to travel direct to the Queen Margaret Residence to dump your bags in your rooms, which might well be more practical than carrying them around with you. On this note, please give me your ETA in Glasgow as soon as you can, so that I know roughly when to expect you (e.g. early afternoon, or mid-afternoon - a landing time or train arrival time would do). From a booked accommodation perspective, we are now (since July 26th) in the 75% cancellation fee period for the accommodation. This means that every room cancelled incurs a cancellation charge from the accommodation service equivalent to three quarters of the charge for the week, so it is very much to be hoped that noone will have to cancel at this stage. This charge rises to 100% 24 hours before the meeting starts.
Presentations
Remember, as a presenter, it is your responsibility to check the abstract currently online at the site for errors (you have one week to notify me before it goes to print).
Oral Presenters:
It is also your responsibility to read the guidelines in the Third Circular (and the limits cited there on formats of talk that can be presented) and provide a CD of your oral presentation in advance.
Presenters of Posters
If you are giving a poster presentation, it is imperative that you indicate this week which size of poster board you require for your poster - in other words, tell me which of the size formats specified in the Third Circular you have gone for.
Receipts
If you require a receipt, and have not already received one, then you should notify me this week, otherwise it will not be possible to provide one until after the conference.
Field Trip:
As you will be aware, there has been a renewed outbreak of 'foot-and-mouth' disease amongst cattle in Surrey. While no outbreaks have yet been reported in Scotland, movement restrictions are still in place, and this may inhibit our ability to provide a field trip this year. One of the landowners involved has certainly raised these concerns, and ultimately we have to respect their wishes if they insist on this point. But at the time of writing they have not yet refused access, so you should assume that the field trip is going ahead, and bring appropriate footwear (wellies advised, if damp!!).
Auction
Again, please do remember to bring your donations for the Grand Auction on Tuesday night, as handled by Paul and Lez. Please remember that the annual bursaries from the Jones-Fenleigh Memorial Fund for attendance at SVPCA rely on the money raised from these donations.
See you in two weeks -
Jeff.x
